1/130 MUGDOCK WOOD

Lead Organisation: Mugdock Country Park
Total Cost: £31,100
Millennium Commission Grant: £15,1000

Mugdock Wood, an SSSI within Mugdock Country Park, near Milngavie, receives substantial numbers of visitors from the Glasgow and surrounding area. This project has brought the 80ha oak wood into management through the preparation and implementation of a detailed management plan. Work on the ground included the removal of invasive non-native trees, restoration of coppicing in places, and planting of some native species as well as improvement to paths and interpretation. Though-provoking stone carvings and structures have been placed at each of the entrances to the wood. Mugdock Wood is the most southerly of the six Millennium Forest projects found along the West Highland Way, which starts in the Country Park and finishes 95 miles further north at Fort William.
