1/133 COMMUNITY WOODLAND STEWARDSHIP

Lead Organisation: The Woodland Trust
Total Cost: £260,100
Millennium Commission Grant: £86,000

Focused mainly on the towns of Glenrothes and Livingston this project has assisted in the improvement and restoration of a number of Woodland Trust woods through the involvement of local communities and the production of management plans. The Woodland Trust is managing the woods with the aim of enhancing their natural qualities and amenity value but felt it was vital that this involved local people. A Project Officer has helped to set up and work with local groups, aiming to secure long-term public commitment to the local environment through training programmes, voluntary practical work and involvement of local schools. A report has been produced explaining the lessons learnt by Woodland Trust from this project, which will have wider application in the important field of community involvement.
