1/18 CENTRAL SCOTLAND FOREST COMMUNITY PROJECT

Lead Organisation: Scottish Conservation Projects Trust
Total Cost: £162,900
Millennium Commission Grant: £58,200

The desire to work together on a major environmental project led to Scottish Conservation Projects Trust and Central Scotland Countryside Trust (CSCT) working on this project in North Lanarkshire, Falkirk and West Lothian. One of the main aims of the Central Scotland Forest was to bring long-term benefits to the local community. With this in mind this Millennium Forest project has concentrated on encouraging local events, providing support and advice and the promoting practical woodland projects. The project officer has worked closely with a large number of community groups including schools and Shotts Prison, providing information, support and arranging formal training in practical skills and safe working practices. The local environment has benefited from the increased native tree cover around the small towns and villages of the Central Scotland Forest as a result of the valuable contribution of local people and partner organisations.
