Barnluasgan is a Forest Enterprise owned semi-natural wood of oak, birch and hazel close to the Crinan Canal in Argyll. 248ha of the wood are designated as a Caledonian Forest Reserve. The MFS project has assisted expansion of the semi-natural woodland by the removal of 40 ha of non-native conifers and encouraging natural regeneration in these areas. A 1.5km all-ability footpath has been constructed from the up-graded car park and information centre to a new bird hide over-looking Loch Barnluasgan. The adjacent Millennium Forest project (1/044) Barnluasgan Centre, which is run by the Argyll Green Woodworkers Association, provides demonstrations and training in a range of management techniques linked to wood products – such as coppicing.
