The first stage in this project was the creation of a network of demonstration sites across the Highlands where local communities could have access to examples of good practice and demonstrations of new techniques and equipment appropriate to native woodlands. These sites covered a range of locations and business enterprises, from croft woods to semi-commercial plantations with the common aim of promoting the benefits of sustainable woodland management and harvesting techniques. A programme of open days and events, based on these sites, helped to illustrate good management practices and a series of reports and publications setting out practical aspects of management have been distributed to disseminate the results to a wider audience.
