The Central Scotland Forest Strategy was formally launched in 1995 with a target of doubling woodland cover in the area over a twenty year period. This project launched its Action Plan for native woodlands in September 1998. This was based on a producing an information database and a strategy for the management and development of native woodland within the project area, which lies between the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. The programme of action for native woodlands included a series of woodland demonstrations, increased opportunities for environmental recreation, education and interpretation as well as developing community involvement and understanding of the work of the project. A Community Woodland Support Pack, consisting of woodland educational resources and references has been prepared and distributed throughout the project area. The detailed assessment of all the native woodland in the area covered by Central Scotland Countryside Trust (CSCT) has been undertaken using methods developed at the national level through the Caledonian Partnership (see project 2/068). |
