Lead Organisation: Highland Renewal
Total Cost: £144,775
Millennium Commission Grant: £46,438

This project focused on 615 ha in the south west corner of the Island of Mull, near the ferry crossing to Iona. This area of rare and threatened woodland of birch, hazel and oak is of national importance for its botanical interest. Highland Renewal, who lease this land, were already undertaking the restoration of the native woodland by deer fencing the whole property and planting in one area. The Millennium Forest project has enabled their work to continue and extend while adding to its quality and long term value. The main outputs included archaeological and wildlife surveys for the management plan, further encouragement of natural regeneration of the woods, improvements to footpaths, information and events for visitors and local people and a programme of ecological monitoring.
