3/039 ROSLIN GLEN

Lead Organisation: Midlothian Council
Total Cost: £133,465
Millennium Commission Grant: £46,826

Roslin Glen is an attractive and popular wooded glen of historical and conservation importance on the south side of Edinburgh. This project has improved an area of 25 ha of woodland, which had suffered from the ravages of Dutch Elm disease and invasion by non-native tree and shrub species. The latter are being removed and native broadleaves planted as well as thinning some woodland to provide structural diversity. Paths are being improved, linking with Roslin Glen Country Park and Rosslyn Chapel; and on-site information has been provided for the many visitors. Local environmental groups and schools have been involved in some of the work and it is hoped that the Glen can be further developed as an educational resource.
